“Small but powerful” — the aesthetic sensibility in the East
“All things small, no matter what they are, all things small are beautiful.”(from Japanese literature The Pillow Book)
“Miniature Theatre” is initiated by the stage director Hope Chiang since June 2004. In fact, “Miniature” can be found in fine art (painting), in regional craft (carving on rice and hair) or in popular culture (Lego and car model). In “Miniature Theatre”, Hope Chiang tries to test this concept by real actors manipulating small toys, objects and virtual reality. The experiment changelings in many aspects: the perspective on size, the multi-level relationships in character, the use of small object as well as the conversation to audience’s imagination. Hopefully, all participants can feel “The beauty of life lies in smallness.”
